Social Impact

Social impact is an area of rapidly increasing involvement and interest for Wharton MBA students, with MBA graduates and interns serving employers across sectors, including social finance, education, government, social enterprise, and non-profits.

This fall, the Wharton MBA program kicked off the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Initiative. This new initiative aims to “solve the social problems incident to our civilization” through new course study options and rigorous research programs. Alongside the opportunities provided by the Wharton Social Impact Initiative, MBA students can now major in Environment, Social, and Governance Factors for Business or Social and Governance Factors for Business. Research Center and Labs grant students and faculty the opportunity to develop new curricular materials, that could shape how businesses operate in the future.

Additionally, Wharton MBA students can gain valuable social impact experience through the student-run Wharton Impact Investing Partners, which seeks to co-invest and partner with angel and venture capital investors focusing on a triple bottom line (people, planet, and profits) investment philosophy.

Meet the Social Impact Club

Over 300 students participate in a club with a focus on social impact. These Clubs host quarterly events to cover industry trends, spotlight guest speakers, and offer career preparation advice for members. There are many clubs housed under the Social Impact umbrella including the Wharton Social Impact Club, Wharton Impact Investing Partners, Sustainable Business Club, Wharton Politics and Public Policy, and Education Club.

Contact club leaders to chat about co-hosting an array of educational events or reach out to share new internship or job opportunities.

Host a Career Trek

Each year our students organize visits to Washington, New York City and San Francisco to visit government and nonprofit organizations. Treks are a great opportunity to share your story and network.
